A Peek At Our Week: March 18-21

Winter is a great time to study coniferous and deciduous trees. On our outside adventures we checked to see which trees were still green and which trees have lost their leaves. Inside we made tree paintings.

A Peek At Our Week: March 11-15 (aka the blog post that never got published)

Merry and Caitie enjoyed being co-workers in our new hospital dramatic play area
Dr. Merry checking on a sick patient
Digger the snake visited our classroom this week

After holding the snake we made our own snakes by cutting on a spiral
Emily taught us about parts of a plant

We made our own plants using pipe cleaners, feathers and string

Elizabeth sorted corn into the "seeds" bag. We sorted food by root, leaf, seed, stem, flower or fruit.
Austin and Aidan enjoyed finding large pieces of ice and snow in the Lower Maka this week
It's syrup season! Ethan helped Seth drill a hole in one of our maple trees

Max inserting the spile into the tree

Dagny hammering the spile
Caroline was excited to see sap dripping into the bucket right away!
Gigi and Jonah had some fun playing with green puffy paint (glue and shaving cream)

Ruby and Dagny drew pictures of leprechauns in hopes they would visit our classroom
It worked! On Thursday they made a mess of our coatroom but brought us some gold!

Makenna happy about her gold coin
On Friday the leprechauns came again!
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Cactus Tasting

Wednesday was a big day in the Pony classroom. In addition to traveling to some National Parks in the desert region, we also spent the morning cooking cactus!
Laura removing spines from the cactus pads
After the spines were removed and the cactus was rinsed Maddie cut some cactus strips into little pieces

Gigi rinsed all of the cut cactus pieces. Next the cactus was cooked with some oil and salt.
The finished product! Can you guess if your Pony participated in cactus tasting? A few even asked for seconds!
